The municipality of Muonio is home to the most impressive waterways in all of Lapland, including the Äijäkoski Rapids, located 7 kilometers from the town center. The busy waters offer an optimal location for capturing speed and action, but you don’t have to travel far for a more peaceful nature setting.
Äijäkoski is a part of the 230-kilometer Muonio River, which makes up a part of the border between Finland and Sweden. The lively rapids are surrounded by nature trails, and an observation point offers an impressive view of the surroundings. A popular spot amongst fisherfolk, nature enthusiasts and whitewater rafters, the Äijäkoski area also includes a spacious parking area and a lean-to.

Permits & Safety
The Äijäkoski area is managed by the municipality of Muonio. Filming permits (if needed) are granted by their technical department.
Everyone’s Right means you might not need a permit when filming at Äijäkoski, especially if your production is on the smaller side and causes minimal disturbance to nature. If you’re not sure, you can always ask to clarify your rights and responsibilities.
