Land of 1000 lakes? Try 100,000. And about a third of those are in Finnish Lapland, including Lake Inari, the so-called Sámi Sea. The wilderness of Lapland is also crisscrossed with rivers great and small, including the Tornio river, the longest free-flowing river in all of Europe. In winter, most rivers and lakes freeze solid, making them perfect for skiing, ice-fishing and snowmobiling. There are even a handful of ice roads in Lapland.
