Sustainable Port of the North

The environment and the principles of sustainable development are considered in all of the operations of the Port of Kemi. Sustainable values are applied in the efficient use of energy, planning and implementation of all harbour structures as well as recycling all waste created through the harbour’s operations.

When volumes of cargo are high, transporting goods by sea is more sustainable and cost-efficient than any other form of transport. It is also the safest option and has the smallest environmental footprint in comparison to land or air transport.

Thanks to its location in the north, the Port of Kemi is able to offer a fast and easy connection to Northern Calotte and the Barents Region. Using the Kemi harbor for these transport routes shortens the sea and land transfers significantly, thus saving time, money and the environment.
