In summer 2018 (May-October) there were one million registered overnight stays in Lapland and the share of international overnight stays was nearly one-third of the total overnight stays.
Summer tourism in Lapland is growing but the growth rate is not yet as fast as it has been during the winter. In 2018 in Lapland there were 2% more overnight stays compared to the year before, the growth rate was the same as in Finland in general. In Lapland a big share of tourists in summer are domestic, the biggest interational markets were Germany, Norway, Switzerland and the Netherlands.
Summer tourism has a lot of potential and at the moment tourism companies and organizations in Lapland are putting a lot of effort in developing the season.
